Awards for Young Musicians Trust - Concert 28th October
At short notice North Highland Connections has an opportunity to promote a concert by three performers from the Awards for Young Musicians Trust.  They will give a concert in the splendid Village Hall at Mey (opposite the castle), in Caithness, on Sunday, 28th October, at 7:30pm.

Following the success of last December's Sublime project that saw five cars transformed into pieces of art at the Rose Street Car Park, Inverness, Team Recoat are back working with local artists Erlend & Pamela Tait and Jennifer Cantwell to adorn more vehicles that will brighten the city's streets.   They will be at Falcon Square, in the heart of the city, between noon and 6pm on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 October for two days of live street art, workshops and artists' talks funded by Creative Scotland and Inverness Common Good Fund.

Gaelic speakers urged to 'use it or lose it'
Gaelic speakers were yesterday urged to make the most of their language skills to ensure that a key part of Scottish heritage continues to grow for future generations.   Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning Michael Russell will speak at the world renowned annual celebration of the Gaelic language, the Royal National Mod (Am Ṃd Nàiseanta Ŕoghail), in Dunoon this evening.

Creative Businesses To The Forefront In Scotland
The vibrancy of Scotland's creativity was in the spotlight as the recipients of this year's Starter for 6 investment were announced by Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop.   Among the successful companies are a former Hip Hop dancer whose global network is enabling dancers from the USA to Australia to share moves via an app on both the Apple and Android platforms; an innovative, high-tech fashion designer; and a product designer whose drum kit won't upset the neighbours.

Call For Artists - Inchmore Gallery CD Collection 2012
Inchmore Gallery, near Inverness are going to hold their 2nd annual "CD Collection" exhibition from 3rd November - 22nd December 2012.   The gallery are putting out an open to all artists, using any media.

750 primary and secondary young people from all over Highland were in Inverness on Thursday to take part in the 2012 Highland Music Day.   Organised by The Highland Council, seven venues across the city were used to host workshops for young musicians of strings, brass, woodwind, bagpipes, pipe band drumming, traditional music, percussion and voice.

Wild North Festival - Storytelling and more
On Wednesday Oct 25th The FIRST EVER Portskerra International Storytelling Festival has a wee taster session at The Comm Bar in Thurso.  And then on the Thursday night at 7.30pm the full performance at Melvich Village Hall with Nina Naesheim from Norway, Christine Stone, Elliot Rudie and myself.

Artists Are Invited To Put Forward Ideas For Caithness Sculptures
The Highland Council's Planning and Development Service is looking for artists to create and install two sculptures at locations in the Dunnet area of Caithness.   As part of a wider environmental improvement project, the Council is inviting expressions of interest from artists for the design and fabrication of interpretive sculptural artworks for a site by the Seadrift Centre on Dunnet Bay and the Easter Head viewpoint at Dunnet Head in Caithness.

Musicians to meet up for Highland Music Day
The Council's annual event, Highland Music Day, takes place on Thursday (6 October) when 750 young musicians of all abilities from Highland primary and secondary schools come to Inverness to take part in a day of workshops and group playing.   Seven different venues throughout the city will be used to host activities for the young musicians of strings, brass, woodwind, bagpipes and pipe band drumming, traditional music and percussion.

Tore Art Gallery are planning to hold a Highland craft extravaganza pre-Christmas this year (from around 10th November 2012) and would like to invite craft makers to submit their work for inclusion in this event.   Clare at the gallery is prepared to consider anything at all (originals or multiples, big or small), including products an art gallery might not necessarily want to stock at other times of year.
