Highland council are custodians of many paintings inherited from gifts and donations to former district councils.   Many remain in town halls, museums and libraries.  

First male voice choir album launched in Argyll

A prizewinning Gaelic choir from Argyll, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2012, has marked the occasion by recording the first album ever produced by a male voice Gaelic choir.  Còisir Ceann an Tuirc - translated as The Boar’s Head Choir - takes its name from the crest of the Clan Campbell, which has its ancestral seat at Inveraray Castle in Argyll.  

2012-2013 Neil Gunn writing competition - Still Time To Enter

This biennial competition is organised by High Life Highland and The Neil Gunn Trust, who gratefully acknowledge the sponsorship of this year’s competition by Dingwall & Seaforth Ward 9, The Highland Council; Rhoda Michael; David Lynch of The Greenhouse www.thegreenhousedingwall.co.uk .   We are delighted that the lead judge for this, the 13th competition, is Scottish author Jackie Kay.  

Dates announced for goNORTH 2013

It has been announced that goNORTH 2013 will take place on the 5th and 6th of June next year.  The thirteenth edition of Scotland’s premier creative industries festival will again be held across several venues in Inverness City Centre.  

Iconic Artists in Iconic Places Highland based projects revealed

Three exciting new creative collaborations get the green light today as Museums Galleries Scotland reveal the successful applicants for Iconic Artists in Iconic Places grants.   The funding enables The Scottish Fisheries Museum, Timespan and Gairloch Heritage Museum to work with acclaimed artists who will draw inspiration from their collections and the history of their local communities.  

Young performers showcase musical talent at festival

350 young musicians from across the Highlands took part in a day long music festival on Saturday (17 November) at the Osprey Arena at the MacDonald Aviemore Resort.  First to take to the stage was the Highland Schools Wind Band with conductor Mark Reynolds who led the young musicians through an ambitious programme featuring A Monmouth Overture, Karl Jenkins’ Palladio arranged by Robert Longfield, Broken Sword and The Incredibles.  

New Fangled: Graduate Workshop and Showcase

New Fangled is a free showcase and workshop for artists and designers looking to further develop and raise the profile of their ideas and businesses.   New Fangled is aimed to help graduates (2010+) from all disciplines of art and design.  

Wick Players - Christmas Production

Wick Players Christmas production of 'Family Fever' - another Sam Cree script Xmas play dates are Tues 11th December until Friday the 14th December.   Tickets priced at eight pound fsor tiered seating and six pounds for normal.

Sistema Scotland Funding

A hugely successful music programme is set to transform one of Glasgow’s most deprived areas after being awarded more than £1 million from the Scottish Government.   Sistema Scotland has been allocated £1.325 million to aid its expansion to Govanhill where it will establish a Big Noise Orchestra.
