A prizewinning Gaelic choir from Argyll, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2012, has marked the occasion by recording the first album ever produced by a male voice Gaelic choir.  Còisir Ceann an Tuirc - translated as The Boar’s Head Choir - takes its name from the crest of the Clan Campbell, which has its ancestral seat at Inveraray Castle in Argyll.

Provost prepares to welcome people to Scottish Traditional Music Awards
The 2012 MG ALBA Traditional Music Awards are taking place in Fort William this weekend and the Provost of Lochaber, Councillor Allan Henderson, is looking forward to extending a warm Highland welcome to everyone coming along.   He said: “The Highland Council are delighted that the 10th MG ALBA Scottish Traditional Music Awards are taking place in the Highlands especially in Lochaber where many traditional musicians live and work.

2012-2013 Neil Gunn writing competition - Still Time To Enter
This biennial competition is organised by High Life Highland and The Neil Gunn Trust, who gratefully acknowledge the sponsorship of this year’s competition by Dingwall & Seaforth Ward 9, The Highland Council; Rhoda Michael; David Lynch of The Greenhouse www.thegreenhousedingwall.co.uk .   We are delighted that the lead judge for this, the 13th competition, is Scottish author Jackie Kay.

Big Rise In Scottish Brass Bands
The number of brass bands in Scotland has almost doubled over the past five years due to Scottish Government funding.   There are now 131 brass bands in Scotland compared to just 74 in 2007.

Iconic Artists in Iconic Places Highland based projects revealed
Three exciting new creative collaborations get the green light today as Museums Galleries Scotland reveal the successful applicants for Iconic Artists in Iconic Places grants.   The funding enables The Scottish Fisheries Museum, Timespan and Gairloch Heritage Museum to work with acclaimed artists who will draw inspiration from their collections and the history of their local communities.

350 young musicians from across the Highlands took part in a day long music festival on Saturday (17 November) at the Osprey Arena at the MacDonald Aviemore Resort.  First to take to the stage was the Highland Schools Wind Band with conductor Mark Reynolds who led the young musicians through an ambitious programme featuring A Monmouth Overture, Karl Jenkins’ Palladio arranged by Robert Longfield, Broken Sword and The Incredibles.

Over £400,000 is available through AmbITion Scotland’s new Make:IT:Happen Fund.   The Make:IT:Happen Fund is part of the national digital development programme, AmbITion Scotland, and has been created to help Scottish organisations grasp the opportunities presented by digital technologies in order to grow business capability, capacity, creativity and confidence in these areas.

Timespan’s Gallery is already painted red for the Grand Christmas Salon this winter, and lots of paintings and artworks have arrived in golden frames.  We are getting ready for our first Timespan Christmas Salon Preview Friday 23 Nov 2012, 7pm Exhibition: 25 Nov – 24 Dec 2012 Timespan’s gallery will emulate a Grand Victorian Salon with works in gold frames lining the red walls, a Christmas tree with decorations, a fireplace and cosy seating.

Sistema Scotland Funding
A hugely successful music programme is set to transform one of Glasgow’s most deprived areas after being awarded more than £1 million from the Scottish Government.   Sistema Scotland has been allocated £1.325 million to aid its expansion to Govanhill where it will establish a Big Noise Orchestra.
