Caithness Gigs are delighted to be bringing the enigmatic former Sergeant frontman Nick Mercer Jr back to the far north, for what will be his fourth visit to the county when he plays the Blackstairs Lounge in Wick on Friday 24th April 2015.

Formed in Glenrothes, Fife, Sergeant had a sharp rise in the Scottish music scene after they were signed to Mercury Records in 2007. They went on to play T in the Park and Glastonbury the same year, as well as supporting Oasis and the Fratellis on their UK tours. Their first visit to Wick was in 2009 when they sold out the 600 capacity Assembly Rooms with a show supporting Diabetes UK.

6 years later and Nick Mercer Jr is back writing music after a period of "falling out of love" with the scene. "I felt stunned by the experience we had with the industry at the end of Sergeant's time, we were signed to a major label and supporting Oasis and then the record label decided not to release the album. We were young though and I look back on the time with only fond memories..."

Quitting his job with Pretty Green in London, he put pen back to paper and is on the road with a selection of new songs as well as revisiting Sergeant's back catalogue - including K-Ok, Sunshine and Counting Down the Days. Speaking recently, Nick said he was very much looking forward to coming back to the far north and playing to a crowd that has always given him a great reception over the years.

Support comes from local musician and producer Andy Williamson, who launched his own solo career in late 2013 after working behind the scenes as a session performer and producer for many other artists. With a 26-date UK tour and a single release already under his belt in 2015, Andy has been working in the legendary Abbey Road studio in London preparing new material for forthcoming releases.

Entry to the show is free, on a first-come-first-served basis, with doors opening at 7pm.
