The School of Fine Art at the Royal College of Art welcomes prospective students to our forthcoming Open Days. This is an opportunity to visit the campus in Battersea, meet academic and technical staff, interact with current students and explore the Fine Art workshops and facilities, which are amongst the best of their kind in the world. A programme of events and activities will provide visitors with a first-hand experience of the School.

The School of Fine Art comprises four MA programmes defined by subject: Sculpture; Painting; Photography; and Printmaking. Each programme engages with the specific discourse of the discipline, its practices, histories and theories while constantly questioning the boundaries that define the discipline.

This year, Fine Art has introduced two new pathways: one in Moving Image and one in Performance. A long-standing strength and presence in RCA Fine Art has now been critically structured to correspond to contemporary practice, offering an intensive period of cross-disciplinary study.

Prospective MA and Research students wishing to enter the School of Fine Art can now apply to be part of these two exciting new cohorts. Students apply through the four existing Fine Art programmes—Painting, Photography, Printmaking or Sculpture—but are based in their own specialist work area independently in the Fine Art campus, whilst simultaneously being part of their 'host' programme.

Artistic research is a key area in the School of Fine Art and our MPhil and PhD programmes are committed to the pursuit of independent research within the framework of contemporary critical discourses. The Image and Language Research Group convenes seminars on art, philosophy, literature, theory and criticism, promoting innovative approaches to the image, writing and questions of representation.

The School of Fine Art itself has an overarching role, encouraging and enabling students to engage with issues and practices that run across the programmes. Current visiting artists include internationally acclaimed and renowned artists and theoreticians such as Mark Leckey, Kara Walker, Gerard Burne, Thomas Hirschhorn, and Fiona Tan.

The school-wide public RCA Visual Cultures Lecture series addresses modes of artistic production and hosts renowned artists from across the world.

Expressions of interest and applications are welcome from candidates with a good undergraduate degree. We especially encourage candidates with a background in art and related practices. We also welcome students who can demonstrate their skills and commitment to artistic practices. You are highly encouraged to attend an open day to understand the range and potential offered by RCA Fine Art and other programmes and workshops at the College.

The School is based in the Royal College of Art's new 33 GBP million campus in Battersea, at the heart of what is fast becoming London's newest and most vibrant creative quarter.
