Manager sought for city centre arts project

The Highland Council is seeking applicants from individuals to manage the Inverness City Arts Programme to provide permanent and temporary art installations in and around the city.

The £750,000 City Arts Programme aims to deliver visual enhancements to the Council’s River Ness Flood Alleviation and Streetscape schemes. Invitations are being sought by tender for the 3-year arts contract with an estimated value of £130,000 through the Public Contracts Scotland website.

The future artworks will be commissioned by the Inverness City Arts Working Group (ICArts) through the successfully appointed Project Manager. The artworks could be based on ideas from within the arts community and will be intended to enhance or complement the built environment and the Council’s capital works projects to which they will be connected as permanent features. Temporary artworks will also enhance community life and engagement between the community and its surroundings while the flood alleviation and streetscape works are ongoing.

Councillor Ken Gowans, Chair of the ICArts Working Group said: “This is a great opportunity to take part in an exciting arts project in an iconic setting that will leave a lasting legacy on the centre of Inverness.

“We are hoping that this opportunity will appeal to a wide range of suitably qualified project managers as it is important for this prestigious project that whoever is appointed will be of a very high calibre with responsibility for delivering important projects.”

The deadline for tenders for the manager’s contract is noon on Monday 23 September.

The arts programme is being funded by The Highland Council, the Inverness Common Good Fund, Creative Scotland and is being governed by the Council’s Inverness City Arts Group (ICArts).
