The summer issue of Flash Art International continues its ongoing investigation of painting, the medium's legacy and current developments; also in this issue we showcase the art scene in Asia, one of the most exciting and dynamic regions of the world.

Celebrating his astonishing exhibition at the François Pinault Foundation - Palazzo Grassi in Venice, Flash Art invited Rudolf Stingel to give his very personal responses to a collection of questions submitted by Udo Kittelmann, Massimiliano Gioni, Jeanette Pacher, Helena Kontova, Sadie Coles, Giancarlo Politi, Chrissie Iles and Paula Cooper.

Curator and writer Emi Fontana provides an insider's perspective on the Venice Biennale's Encyclopedic Palace, curated by Massimiliano Gioni.

In Venice Inside Out, Flash Art contributors report on selected highlights of the Venice Biennale: the Bahamas Pavilion; Shirazeh Houshiary's project at Torre di Porta Nuova; When Attitudes Become Form Bern 1969 / Venice 2013, at the Fondazione Prada; the Middle Eastern pavilions; the Georgian Pavilion; and the Asian pavilions.

Seeking answers about contemporary tendencies in painting, Flash Art submitted a questionnaire to a group of emerging artists: Jonathan Binet, Sarah Cain, Matteo Callegari, Alika Cooper, Alistair Frost, Paul Heyer, Parker Ito, Greg Parma Smith, Ryan Sullivan, Valerie Snobeck and Ryan Foerster.

New York-based artist Alexi Worth unpacks the work of American artist Barnaby Furnas with an analysis of his roots and recurrent motifs, his language and technique, his concepts and references.

Curator and art historian Robin Clark looks at the practice of American artist James Turrell. On the occasion of his concurrent exhibitions at LACMA in Los Angeles, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, Clark provides an insightful overview of the artist's five-decade-long journey.

The Asia Section
An intimate account of the current scene in China written by San Francisco- and Paris-based curator Evelyne Jouanno, who recaps a recent visit to the country after being away for several years;

A conversation between Korean artists Moon Kyungwon and Jeon Joonho moderated by Kunsthaus Bregenz director Yilmaz Dziewior about their working methods and their collaborative project presented at dOCUMENTA 13;

An interview with Japanese artist Aida Makoto conducted by curator and former Mori Museum director David Elliott.
