Future Pioneers – Discovered at New Designers 2013

The Design Council want to celebrate and nurture the most principled, passionate and purposeful young designers. At New Designers 2013, the UK largest graduate design exhibition, they will be looking for the most promising emerging designers to become their Future Pioneers.

About Future Pioneers

The Design Council wants to celebrate and nurture the most principled, passionate and purposeful young designers.

In the first year the Future Pioneers scheme they will pick 3-6 graduate exhibitors from New Designers 2013, the UK’s largest design graduate exhibition taking place from 3-6 July 2013.

Future Pioneers will be supported with a programme of promotion and mentoring from some of the UK’s top designers plus a chance to exhibit their work at 100% Design, the UK’s largest design trade event. The winners will be announced at the Design Council Thursday Late event on 4 July 2013.

The scheme aims to raise awareness of the positive impact design can have by providing a platform for designers with the potential to contribute to economic growth and solve social problems in inspiring and exciting new ways.

Prizes

Design Council wants to be a springboard for our Future Pioneers’ success.

To do this they have pulled together a whole host of prizes to promote and support their careers, these will include:

Mentoring and support:

•Advice sessions with the British Council on reaching international markets
•Support from Design Council’s Design Associates
•The judges will provide a combination of support, mentoring, internships, workspace and personal introductions
Promotion and positioning:

•Exhibition space at 100% Design
•An exhibition in the Design Council reception
•A feature on the Design Council website
•PR and social media support from the Design Council
How to enter

To be considered to become a Design Council Future Pioneer you must be a current design student and entered into Part 2 of the New Designers exhibition, taking place this year on 3-6 July 2013. If you are not already entered in the New Designers exhibition, talk to your university or college tutor about arranging entry.

The New Designers exhibition Part 2 focusses on the following disciplines:

•Furniture & Product Design (inc. Industrial Design)
•Visual Communications
•Spatial Design
•Prime Cuts (Motion Arts)
Everyone exhibiting at New Designers Part 2 will automatically be reviewed for the Design Council Future Pioneers shortlist on 4 July 2013.

Shortlisted students will receive a swing-tag to display on their stands and the winners will be announced at the Thursday Late event on 4 July.

Future Pioneers is pilot scheme for Design Council this year so they are just focusing on on Part 2 of the exhibition. They will be looking at expanding it to include Part 1 of New Designers in the future.
