Note - This competition is open to anyone over 16 and who has been involved with a Highland literacy partner since January 2008.

In 2012 we saw second year of the Writing Competition, it produced 38 entries, up 50% over 2011, We are looking for another great response 2013s ‘ Every Picture Tells a Story 3 Competition. The prizes are to be handed out at the 2013 ‘Celebration of Learning’ in May 2013. We will again be looking for a picture and written piece, from the students across the Adult Learning provision in the whole Highlands. The benefit for you as a student is an increased level of confidence, as the saying goes ‘nothing breeds success like success’ and we all want to be successful.

Once you have chosen your picture that is no bigger than A4, you can go one of two directions first you can make up a poem or short story of up to 500 words, or secondly you could write about what this picture means to you if you need an idea of the sort of thing that is wanted, you could look at Harry Duncan’s, “A Soldier’s Homecoming From The Forgotten War,” in the ‘Writers Gallery’, in which he had a picture of the ship that brought his father home from war and a written piece about what that meant to him.

So, it’s time to get busy with the camera, pencil, paint brush or even photo album diving to find a picture to tickle your inspiration. Once found you time to draft and craft your entry. After all that hard work be sure to have your entry in by Thursday 28th March. Remember the important thing is to enjoy the experience, so get busy and have fun.
