Highland Artists Creative Learning Networking Event

25th January 2013

Creativity is a term that has a high profile in Scottish education at present. The development of skills in creativity in children and young people is considered by many education experts and Scottish Government policymakers to be of prime importance. In order to ensure that young people have access to the best possible creative learning experiences and opportunities, Education Scotland and Creative Scotland are supporting local authorities across Scotland to develop Creative Learning Networks (CLNs). The Networks are being developed to encourage collaborative working across the Education, Culture and Communities sectors and bring together those with an interest in children and young people’s creative learning. The ultimate aim is to build young people’s confidence, achievements and skills for future life and work.

Amy Macleod is the Creative Learning Leader for High Life Highland. As part of her role she leads on the Creative Learning Network for the Highland Area, in partnership with Katyana Kozikowska, Eden Court Creative manager. They are currently looking to build on the development of their network and are interested to meet with all types of working artists and creative professionals currently living and working in the Highland Area.

As part of this years’ Creative Learning Network programme, they would like to invite you to a free event to be held at Eden Court Theatre on Wednesday 30th January 2013 from 6:30pm – 9pm, where they will meet to discuss how we can develop Creative Learning in Highland and how they can build stronger partnerships between Highland Schools and Highland artists, both freelance and cultural or arts organisation based.

The evening will consist of various discussions and group workings with time for networking and showcasing and also Q & A. They will look at how to compliment the Curriculum for Excellence currently taught in Highland Schools and the barriers faced by both artists and schools on collaborative working. Refreshments will also be provided.

It is hoped that all types of artists and creative professionals will feel encouraged to attend, from writers to dancers, from musicians to visual artists, from storytellers to craft specialists, everyone and anyone working within the Creative Sector is invited to attend. All that they ask is that you have an interest in working with children and young people in participatory settings and believe that the arts and creative practice have a true impact on their life-long learning.

If you would like to attend the event, please do not hesitate to contact Amy Macleos at High Life Highland for more information and to book a space – Amy.MacLeod[AT]highlifehighland.com
