Do You Write Film Scripts?

Here is chance for script writers to submit work for lo finance productions.

Closing date: 5pm Monday July 9th 2012

Lo-fi is a low budget film initiative, aimed at developing up-and-coming talent. This comprehensive programme aims to find exciting new work, by up-and-coming film makers, that can be made at micro budget level. The programme is presented in two distinct phases:

lo-fi Phase 0.1
Phase 0.1 will focus on the development of low budget screenplays that can be made on a micro budget level. We are looking to develop between five and seven screenplays in three workshops over an eight month period, working with some of UK's foremost script editors. The workshops will include: regular script editing sessions; master classes; read-throughs with actors; budget development & packaging.

We are looking for new work from up-and-coming talent with contemporary Scottish stories. The stories should show an ambition to find an audience in the market place.

At the end of phase 0.1 the projects will be pitched to an industry panel and one project will be selected for phase 0.2 - advanced development.

lo-fi phase 0.1 is an initiative of Screen Academy Scotland, a Creative Skillset Film & Media Academy at Edinburgh Napier University, supported by BBC Scotland, Creative Scotland and Matador Pictures.

lo-fi Phase 0.2
At the end of phase 0.1, we will launch lo-fi phase 0.2, which will select one of the developed screenplays for further advanced development and financing. More details will be released nearer the time.

Guidelines - General requirements
Lo-fi's philosophy is to embrace low budget and innovation and become a breeding ground for up-and-coming talent. Above all however, it is about the story.We are looking for fresh, new and exciting stories, not dusted off screenplays that have already been repeatedly rejected by industry organisations.

We are looking for people who are driven and excited by the challenge of creating films on a micro-budget that will connect with an audience.We are looking for applicants who have completed at least two successful short films, that have played and won awards at international film festivals. lo-fi will focus on up and coming talent.

Directors should have made a minimum of two short films that have each been screened in at least one international festival and may already have made a micro/no-budget film in the last 2 years. In addition, applications will be considered from talent with a track record in directing for theatre or television. However Lo-fi will focus on up-and-coming talent, and applicants with an extensive track record in film/television will not be considered.

Writers should have a demonstrable track record in short films and/or relevant professional experience in theatre/television. We want to be genuinely excited by up-and-coming talent who have already started to express themselves.

Producers should have a track record of working in shorts and will have experience in guiding projects from development through to exhibition. Producers should also have a rounded knowledge of the business aspects of the industry, and may have produced a low/no budget feature or television/theatre work already.

Individuals or teams in any Writer, Writer/Director and Producer combination can apply.

If you apply as an individual writer we will match you with a director and producer as part of the process.

If you apply as a team you need to be able to show you are genuinely capable of delivering a project at this level. Screen Academy Scotland reserves the right to only take forward individuals from any team.
