26th September 2009

For jazz lovers and performers to come together and share a spirit of mutual enthusiasm.

Visiting musicians will take part in an exciting day of master-classes and improvisation sessions open to musicians of any age/degree of musical ability with rehearsals of pieces for that evening's concert. The visiting musicians are vocalist Todd Gordon, pianist David Patrick, trombone player Chris Greive, bass player Mario Caribé and drummer Stuart Brown.

Workshop One, Sun. 18th Oct. 11am - 1pm David Patrick and the other visiting musicians will lead participants through a series of pieces designed to help players extend their improvising skills. There will be different groups for beginners/intermediate/advanced.

Workshop Two, Sun. 18th Oct. 2pm - 4pm David Patrick and Todd Gordon will lead CBB members through big band arrangements while Stuart and Mario lead other participants in a samba school. If you can't play an instrument but would love to take part in music-making this is an opportunity to come on board.

Workshop Three, Sun. 18th Oct. 4.30 - 5.30pm Participants break up into smaller groups for more concentrated work on technique, ensemble playing or the approach to repertoire and composition.

On whatever level you engage with jazz we hope there will be something for you to enjoy during this weekend. If you prefer to sit back and listen to an excellent singer, choose Concert One on Saturday evening. If you prefer the big band sound and enjoy surprises and experiment choose Concert Two on the Sunday evening. If you want to share your love of jazz and improve your skills as a musician sign up for the whole weekend which will include both concerts and this day of workshops. If you want to find a way into jazz, then join the samba school.
