2009: A Sinclair Odyssey - May Newsletter

15th May 2009

Hello to you all and welcome to the first Odyssey newsletter!

We had our first walk on Sunday 10th of May, lead by Dieter Tuerlinckx of Caithness Ranger Services. It was a beautiful day and many thanks to all those who turned out and made it (I think) such a success. It was thoroughly enjoyable and I hope that the next walk (The Battle Site at Altimarlich on Wednesday 8th July) will be just as much fun!

The Gathering
The project will make it's first visits to schools in June to start working on material for the Gathering which will take place on Saturday, 1st of August up at Noss Head in Wick. The Gathering is your opportunity to see how people from 1600 spent their time (no X-Boxes back then!). There will be many activities on offer including a chance to see if you're up to the challenge of catching your dinner with a bow and arrow!

Sinclair Girnigoe Castle will be open to the public, with guided tours so you can find out all about the recent excavations and discoveries! This is an event for all the family, with something for everyone.

The full programme of walks is available on the website at www.lytharts.org.uk in the 'community arts' section, and we will soon begin to present a series of talks on the subject of the Sinclair history.

This is a community project and we very much hope that if you have any ideas you'll share them with us!
