Have You Thought about A Career In Film Making? Look At the Screen Academy In Scotland

25th February 2008

The Screen Academy Scotland, a Skillset Screen Academy, is a collaboration between Scotland's leading screen practice education institutions - Napier University and Edinburgh College of Art (eca). Together we aim to provide: professionally oriented, project-based and practice-led film education and training delivered in partnership with the screen industry and which is accessible, flexible and promotes diversity.
The Academy is backed by Skillset, the UK Film Council Lottery Fund, the Scottish Executive, Scottish Screen, SMG and BBC Scotland and is one of seven institutions or collaborations designated as UK centres of excellence in film practice education by Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the Audio-visual Industry.

The Academy brings together Napier University and eca's postgraduate degree programmes in directing, producing, screenwriting and animation to which additional programmes will be added in the coming years. It offers a growing range of short course and continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities to people entering or already working in the screen industry.

The Academy is committed to working closely with the industry, public agencies and other Higher and Further Education institutions and others involved in the art, craft and business of film-making. In doing so we aim to extend the range of education, training and development opportunities available to both new and existing practitioners. This includes extending the range and quality of practice teaching, improving access to skills and increasing diversity across education and Industry. based in Edinburgh at our new dedicated production centre, the Screen Academy Scotland has a core team of professionally experienced teaching staff augmented by a wide range of industry practitioners including the 'Skillset 100' pool of leading individuals from the UK film industry and the great wealth of local talent.

Students at the Academy collaborate with each other and with industry practitioners in the development and production of projects. Our programmes encourage personal creative development and a thorough engagement with industry practices, personnel and expectations. The Academy offers a range of post-qualification support including career planning, continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities and help with starting up in business (through the Screen Futures scheme, supported by Equal in Scotland.)

The Screen Academy Scotland provides a space to learn and a gateway to fully independent professional practice for students and, for the screen industry, a gateway to the next generation of ideas, talent and skill.

The Screen Academy runs many short course and summer schools so there may be something for you.
