Three Irons and a Glass Rod
11th March 2007
North Lands Creative Glass runs a range of glass courses throughout the year and in rencent times has extended to have residencies with some of the top up and coming glass artists in the world. Tucked away in the north of Scotland in the small fishing village of Lybster this glass centre is fast building world-wide reputation.
The days of the herring fishing are long gone and nowadays only a few creel boats come and go along with yachts calling in on their way around the coast. However Lybster is appears to be recreating itself and not only boasts its own fishing heritage museum "Waterlines" but also a growing world class glass centre for glass artists to learn techniques, find inspiration and share knowledge. The artists are coming from a growing range of countries and some of the top glass teachers are coming to deliver master classes.
North Lands Creative Glass opens its doors from time to time and invites the world in and you can take the chance to have look at the latest creation from the artists who have taken the opportunity to be in residence for the past few weeks.
The artists Rebecca Chernow, Carrie Fertig, Louise Olsson and Tim Shaw will have their recent work on display at an open day on Thursday 16th March from 12 Noon to 4.00pm in the Alistair Pilkington studio, Lybster (within the former Lybster school).
If you have a couple of hours spare on the afternoon of 16th March take look in at North Lands Creative Glass to see something different in Caithness.
