Members and staff of Highland Youth Wind Band,(one of the eight Highland Young Musicians groups, with members from all over Highland, will be travelling to Glasgow on Sunday (25 June 2017) to embark on a 2-day professional recording of music from this year's band repertoire.

Music Development Officer for The Highland Council, Norman Bolton said: "Highland Youth Wind Band has been performing to the highest levels over the past couple of years and the opportunity to record the group before many of this years experienced and loyal senior players leave school was just too good to refuse.

"Through a corporate contact, we have been able to arrange access to the new home of Royal Scottish National Orchestra in Glasgow - a state of the art performance and recording venue attached to the Royal Concert Hall. We have engaged a recording engineer who works regularly with RSNO so the whole experience on site and eventual CD quality will be beyond anything we could have achieved locally.

"The hard work and loyalty of members and staff involved with this group is beyond reproach and Highland should be rightly proud of the high quality of musicianship achieved. I know that the band will have a great experience and will also benefit from the social aspects of this kind of activity. Music allows our young people to broaden their experiences in so many ways and we should be justly proud of everything they achieve."

The trip is being funded by parents and Friends of Highland Young Musicians but any Highland business who would like to collaborate with this recording is welcome to contact Norman Bolton at norman.bolton@highland.gov.uk as there is still some funding required to cover all the associated costs of the finished CD product. Longer term funding support of HYWB activities is also being sought and can be discussed with Norman at any time.
