Fifty pupils from across Highland schools attended a Brass Day held in Inverness on Wednesday 31 May, organised by Highland Council's Instrumental Tuition Service. Those who attended were all relative beginners on their instruments and the event aimed to inspire and motivate the pupils by giving them the experience of playing in a larger group than they would ever be able to in their weekly lesson scenario.

The day was led by Alan Friel - a conductor, musical director, adjudicator and Instrumental Music Service Manager in the Creative Minds Team at Easy Ayrshire Council, supported by the brass Instructors employed by The Highland Council.

The Council's Music Development Officer Norman Bolton commented that: "Those who attended had a day of good fun and music-making. There was a marked difference in the confidence and quality of playing even within the short space of time the pupils were together and we hope that this will inspire great progress as they return to their school lesson regime.

"We are fortunate in Highland to have a fantastic team of Music Instructors around the whole Council area and those who receive lessons gain so many additional skills by doing so."
