The Third Annual Portskerra International Storytelling Festival

Thursday October 30th - Sunday November 2nd 2014 [AT] 7.30pm (Sunday 2pm- 4pm)

"Our big focus this year is on food, music and celebrating life - even in death!"

'Feed the Spirit' will happen each day of the festival - three people will gather at Melvich Village Hall to make and pass along the recipe and stories of their family favourites - one +50, - 50 & -20. In the evening we will all share the food & their stories.

Thursday October 30th - live ceilidh band 'Clapshot' with piper John Saunders, and stories from all the locals and visiting guests - the main attractions are the local storytellers Christine Stone - Castletown, Sandra Train – Strath Halladale, Alex Patience – Portskerra; and all those in attendance. And ‘Feed the Spirit' stories & food.

Friday October 31st - the main focus is the International guests – Regina Sommer from Germany and a special guest for the Luminate festival of creativity in ageing – James MacDonald Reid, storyteller, pensioner and multi-cultural piper will be appearing as part of the big national closing events for Luminate. And ‘Feed the Spirit' stories & food.

Saturday November 1st – A screening of the 1922 silent film, 'Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror' by F.W.Murnau, and Scottish award winning jazz musicians, Graeme Stephen Quartet, playing the live score. And ‘Feed the Spirit' stories & food.

Graeme Stephen – guitar, Phil Bancroft – saxophone, Ben Davis – cello, Tom Bancroft – drums. Graeme won the Innovation Award for his score to the classic Silent film, Sunrise at the 2013 Scottish Jazz Awards and the 2012 award as, Instrumentalist of the Year. He has gained critical acclaim for his playing and his compositions.

Sunday November 2nd – During a Sunday afternoon cafe, Alex Patience gives a performance of stories combining the lives of Scottish immigrants to Canada who are now buried in Union Cemetery, Calgary's oldest graveyard and linked to Scottish traditional stories with live music by Donald McNeill. Doors open at 2pm for this cafe gathering and performance, just performed in Canada. And ‘Feed the Spirit' stories & food... and this is the last event of the third annual festival.
