Highland 2007 welcomes business backing

6th May 2006

Businesses in the Highlands have committed more than £350,000 in support of Highland 2007, the year Scotland celebrates Highland Culture.

LifeScan Scotland Ltd, Royal Bank of Scotland, Scottish Co-op, Caledonian MacBrayne and Fionnar Springs Ltd are the first to sign up as official partners to Highland 2007.

By investing more than £250,000 cash and £100,000 in-kind in Highland 2007, the partners will directly enhance the range and quality of events and projects making up the programme for Highland 2007, supporting the drive to promote the Highlands as a great place to live and to visit.

Alison Magee, Chair of Highland 2007, said: "This is a huge boost to the programme for Scotland's year of Highland culture, significantly adding to the potential of what can be achieved during 2007. These businesses have already been tremendously supportive to Highland 2007 and clearly recognise this unique opportunity for the area in both social and economic terms. We very much look forward to working with all our partners over the coming months."

LifeScan Scotland is the Principal Partner to Highland 2007. Michael Crowe, Managing Director, said: "We are delighted to be involved with the Highland Event as principal sponsor and to be supporting such a diverse and eclectic programme. As an organisation operating in Scotland we value the distinctive and specific culture that gives the country such a strong identity on the national and international stage. In that context we are keen to promote this showcase for Scottish talent."

Scottish Co-op is a Major Partner to Highland 2007. Gerard Hill, Secretary of Scottish Co-op, said: "As a major business in the Highlands and Islands, it is appropriate for us to support this significant initiative which will not only celebrate our wonderful Highland culture but promote the economic successes and opportunities in the region."

Royal Bank of Scotland is an Event Partner to Highland 2007. Nick Johnston, Royal Bank of Scotland Regional Manager, said: "We are very proud of our long standing association with communities throughout the region, and our support of Highland 2007 demonstrates our continuing commitment to the north of Scotland.

"Highland culture has an enormous amount to offer to both those who live in Scotland and throughout the UK, and indeed the thousands of overseas visitors to the Highlands. Promoting Highland culture is a key part of the future success of the region, and we are delighted to be playing a part in making it happen."

Caledonian MacBrayne is providing in-kind promotional support to the programme for Scotland's year of Highland culture and Fionnar Springs Ltd is an official supplier to Highland 2007.
