Scottish Ensemble strings spectacular for young Highland musicians

The Scottish Ensemble, the UK's only professional string orchestra, will be visiting the Highlands in October to host a special day of tuition for young musicians in Inverness.

Pupils of all ages and abilities who play stringed instruments have the chance to come and join the Scottish Ensemble musicians for a fun day of music making with the opportunity to ask questions and learn how to get more out of their music playing.

The Council's Music Development Officer Norman Bolton said: "This is a great opportunity for beginners, to those considering studying music once they leave school, to come together and learn from the experts. Participants will be placed in small groups based on their standard and chance to work on various techniques as participants spend the day building up to a performance at the end of the session for friends and family."

The special strings session takes place in Inverness on Wednesday 22 October from 10am - 3pm and any primary aged or secondary school pupils wishing to attend should book their place by contacting the Scottish Ensemble on 0141 332 4747 or e-mailing pippa.barnwell[AT]scottishensemble.co.uk.

In addition to Highland Council’s Music Tutors working with pupils in schools across the Highland council area, the Council runs the eight Highland Young Musicians groups and their next public performances will be in Aviemore's MacDonald Resort Arena on 22nd November as part of their Concerts Festival which will feature a day of youth music-making of the highest standards.
