Visionary guitar virtuoso Simon Thacker and the outstanding young Polish cellist Justyna Jablonska present Karmana (Sanskrit for "performing anything by means of magic"), combining elements from classical, jazz, Indian, Flamenco, Celtic, Balkan and other powerful musical systems mixed with Simon's unique experiences performing with musicians from around the world, resulting in an exhilarating meeting of musical styles, cultures and traditions, performed by two leading musicians.
Karmana mingles compositional ingenuity, captivating rhythmic invention and improvisational grace and fervour with the incredible sonic palette of guitar and cello.
Justyna Jablonska holds an MMus in solo performance from the RNCM, where she studied with the principal cellist of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Peter Dixon. In 2011 Justyna was awarded a prestigious scholarship from the Aldeberska Trust in Gothenburg, Sweden, which enabled her to study at the Swedish National Orchestra Academy. Justyna has been the recipient of numerous scholarships from The Waddell Trust in Edinburgh, as well as the RNCM scholarship and the Scholarship of The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland.
Simon Thacker, one of Europe's leading guitarists, is leader of and composer for ground breaking ensembles including Indian/Western supergroup Svara-Kanti, with whom he recently released the CD Rakshasa, which was hailed across the world in over 40 reviews as a new benchmark in intercultural collaboration, with Simon's works played on over 200 radio station in the USA. Simon made his debut as soloist with the RSNO in 2012, is Head of Guitar at Edinburgh Napier University, has been nominated for a Royal Philharmonic Society Award and was a winner of the 50th Park Lane Group Awards.

Lyth Arts Centre Look To The Future Following Funding Award
Worries over the financial outlook for Lyth Arts Centre (LAC) have been eased for the time being after the venue was awarded £97,000 in Scottish Government funding. The sum - from the Performing Arts Venues Relief Fund - represents the full figure requested by co-directors Charlotte Mountford and Tom Barnes, who say the money secures LAC's short-term future up to the end of March next year.

Danish duo Andreas Tophøj and Rune Barslund perform with violin, accordion and viola. The accomplished duo has its roots in Jutland, Denmark, and emerged from the folk scene formed around the Academy of Music in Odense, which until recently was named after composer and musician Carl Nielsen.
