Travelling Light
An exhibition and art activities inspired by the sailor’s ditty box
Exhibition 10am – 4pm daily from Saturday 20th April – Sunday 19th May

What we carry
Friday May 3rd, at 10-12, 2-4 or 7-9pm
Inspiring art workshops with Eleanor White. What sights, sounds or smells would you like to carry home with you? Come to a 2-hour workshop (or more than one) to use print and transfer techniques to make bottles, bags and postcards to capture experiences of travel. For over-16s. £5 per person. PLACES LEFT: please book in advance.

Harbour sketchbook walk
Monday May 6th 11am – 1pm
A perfect bank holiday activity: take a sketchbook around Ullapool Harbour and shore with tutor Rachel Grant. £10 per person including materials: please book in advance.

Sail Away
Monday 13th, Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th May sailing at 2pm, returning around 5pm
A half-day’s sailing with words and art on the traditional sgoth Jubilee (open fishing boat) from the Isle of Lewis. Sailing from Ullapool Harbour with Ian Stephen and Christine Morrison. No experience required: you will be taught the basics of this traditional sailing whilst being regaled with the Jubilee’s history and stories, logging your journey through words, drawing and discovery. Some last minute changes may be necessary due to weather. £12 per person. Booking essential.

Arrivals, Departures
Sunday 12th May, 8.30pm
An evening of curious insights into traditions of seafaring, departure and arrival from Scotland’s ports through film, introduced by Ian Stephen. At the Ullapool Harbour Marquee. Free but advance booking appreciated. Warm clothes advised!

End of show
Sunday 19th May, 3-4pm
Last chance to see the exhibition, including the community gallery showing all the artwork made during the Travelling Light activities. If your own work is featured, please come to this celebration (friends and family welcome) and you can take your work away at 4pm.

The Winter Gallery

The Winter Gallery is now showing Personal Mythologies by printmaker Kate Mackay. Next week the gallery will return to its summer home by the harbour. Many thanks to James for its winter loan and to Rachel for curating the space.

Printing workshop with Highland Print Studio at ATS: Polymer Photogravure
Saturday June 15th 10am – 4pm
John McNaught of the Highland Print Studio will teach a one day introduction to the photogravure process. We will use the vagaries of the Scottish daylight to expose the plates. The resultant images will be intaglio inked as in the etching process, to produce rich monochrome results. No experience necessary, and images can be produced from drawing or photographs (a colour RGB digital file would be preferable). John McNaught is a pioneer in the photogravure process so this will be a great opportunity to learn more about the process. £60 per person, all materials included. Please book: 01854 612310.

Printing workshop with Highland Print Studio at ATS: Wood Engraving
Sunday June 16th 10am – 4pm
Master printmaker John McNaught of the Highland Print Studio will teach a brief introduction to the delights of end grain wood engraving. Enter the remarkable miniture world of detailed relief printmaking and get to know tools such as spitstickers and lozenge gravers. No experience required. £60 per person including materials. Studio and art room hire
This year’s new rates for use of the studios and art room will begin on 1st June. Members receive a 30% discount on art room hire. For the full range of rates please see the website. Bookings are always welcome, whether you are a solo artist wanting a brief studio space or a group wanting to meet regularly.

Members’ Gallery
Join the new online Members’ Gallery! Have an image of your work with your name, and a link to a website or email address, for a one-off fee of £5. To join this gallery please email your image and contact details to sian[AT]antallasolais.org. Pay online or send them your fee, and we will add you to their growing gallery.

Voyage
The first small squares have been arriving for this year’s fundraising exhibition, Voyage. Members should have received their square in the post. They very much hope that you will feel inspired to join in. Our fundraising this year is as important as ever as we try to extend their programme and cope with rising charges, and your artistic contributions are a highly appreciated way of supporting them. Please make sure your squares are with ATS by 1st June.
