Job summary

GLASSTORM, bespoke glass works designer based in Tain, offer a 12 week summer placement opportunity for a current student. The summer undergraduate would play an important part in allowing the business to maintain production in some part during a period of expansion.

Job Description

This is an exciting period in GLASSTORMs development as they look to expand their workshop with direct impact on being able to increase manufacturing capabilities and to develop and establish new sales markets.

GLASSTORM has been recently granted planning permission to expand their current limited workshop facilities. With the initial build of workshop to take place during the summer period, they require an additional person to assist the current studio assistant in establishing a new working area. However the main role for the student would be to essentially to take over our current studio assistants normal glassmaking and studio duties in both the hotshop (glassblowing studio) and coldshop (finishing department).

This position is part funded by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the European Regional Development Fund.

Skills / Experience

Essential:

• Experience in hot glass assisting

• Positive personality

• Able to work as part of a team and on own initiative

• Good social skills

• Able to take instruction

• Hard working

Desirable:

• Desire to advance their own skill level and knowledge

• Knowledge or willing to learn cold working techniques

As part of this TalentScotland Graduate Placement Programme, the candidate will benefit from support from a team within Highlands and Islands Enterprise and also access a two day residential course training focussed on employability and business skills.

Please note that the organisation can not support accommodation costs during the placement but they will endeavour to assist you in sourcing accommodation.

Candidates will also be required to attend a finals day in Inverness near the end / following completion of their placement. The date for this has been confirmed as Friday 30th August 2013.
