Illustration Competition for 'Brave New World'

Folio Society & House of Illustration Competition (max £4.5k) to illustrate Aldous Huxley’s ‘Brave New World’ – deadline: 22 January 2013

Running for the third year this Book Illustration Competition in partnership with The Folio Society is to illustrate Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World.

You are requested to illustrate three scenes from Brave New World. You can select any three scenes from the book and the illustrations must be PORTRAIT, not landscape.

The first prize will be a Folio Society commission worth £4,500 for the book, which will be published in August 2013.

The winner will be asked to provide a total of 8 illustrations for the final book, as well as a binding design, and must agree to complete the commission within the given deadline (March 2013).

Five runners-up will receive prizes of £500 cash. Three prizes of the six will be awarded to student entries.

This year’s judges for the competition are:
Flora Craig (Project Director House of Illustration),
Christopher Frayling (British educationalist and writer, known for his study of popular culture),
Sheri Gee (Art Director The Folio Society),
Igor Karash (Illustrator/Designer),
John Sutherland (Lord Northcliffe Professor Emeritus at UCL),
Tom Walker (Editor of Fiction & Literature at The Folio Society)
Joe Whitlock Blundell (Design and Production Director of The Folio Society)
Before entering read the terms & conditions carefully. To participate you need to pay an entry fee of £25 including VAT (£15 for students). Once registered for entry, no refunds of entry fees, part or whole, will be offered. Only one entry per person will be accepted.
Deadline: 11.59pm (GMT), Tuesday 22 January, the judging will take place end of January 2013. The winner and runners up will be announced in July 2013, to enable the winner to work on the book and for it to be published.
