Verdi's Macbeth Coming To Thurso

Lyth Arts Centre are pleased to announce the presentation of Verdi's MacBeth by Scottish Opera at Thurso High School.   This brooding, atmospheric Macbeth returns in celebration of the 2014 Year of Homecoming.  

Youth Showcase - live concert by local musicians

Lyth Arts Centre welcomes a group of aspiring young musicians who have been attending weekly "jam sessions" at Thurso Youth Club facilitated by Highlife Highland Youth Work staff and local musician Andy Williamson.   Andy has been mentoring them while they try out cover versions of some of their favourite chart numbers and write, perform and record their own songs.

Power and mental health put in spotlight at the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival in Highland.   Aiming to challenge attitudes towards mental health through the arts the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival takes place again in Highland between 1 and 19th of October.

Art Collector Visits Caithness Artist Elaine Rapson-Grant

It was with great excitement that Elaine welcomed Alison Damant all the way from Bradford, England last week.   Alison travelled 652 miles from Bradford to Caithness especially to meet her artist friend.  

The CAB Collective play Y-Not

Y-Not, Thurso 18 September 2014 8.00pm - 12 CAB Collective are a four piece original and covers band based in Morzine, France.  Gigging super prolifically during winter seasons throughout the Alps and beyond, they play everything including but not limited to; blues, disco, dub, folk, pop, metal, reggae and rock! A hugely versatile act, they can be enjoyed either as a fully amplified rock band or as a stripped down acoustic act depending on the vibe and atmosphere of the venue! .  

Shortcuts to the Far North - full showcase

Last Friday (5 September 2014) The North Highland College UHI showcased seven of its student films to a delighted audience at the impressive Pulteneytown People's Project in Wick.  The first six films had been premiered in June and the latest viewing highlighted a new film from screenwriting student Donna Booth.

Big Band Bash Could Boost Heart Group's Funds

THE popular Caithness Big Band returns to Wick's Norseman Hotel, later this month, for a charity bash in aid of the Caithness Heart Support Group.   It's one of the group's biggest fundraisers and tickets both for the event, on September 13, and raffle, are available.  

GABBRO play Y-Not

Gabbro is a rock type; found within the Cuillin Range on the Isle of Skye.  The band formed with its original line up 2 years ago and regularly played on the island, hence the name.
