DONALD McKINNEY, DAVID ROSS, CLIO GRAY - will talk about their work and read from their latest books WICK LIBRARY Monday 3rd November 7pm ENTRY IS FREE & ALL ARE WELCOME This event has been organised by the HIGHLAND SOCIETY of AUTHORS, recently established to aid published authors get out there and tell their local communities about themselves and their work, and promote creative writing in the Highlands.  This reading is part of a programme of readings in public spaces throughout Summer and Autumn.

First Minister Launched MOD With £2.7 Million For Gaelic Education
Gaelic is a unique vehicle for passing Scottish understanding from one generation to the next, First Minister Alex Salmond said as he prepared to formally launch the Royal National Mod 2008 in Falkirk this evening.   The Mod is Scotland's premier Gaelic festival, celebrating Gaelic language and culture, which will today be strengthened with the announcement of more than £2.7 million funding for a range of Gaelic education measures.

Highland school children and adults from across the Highlands and beyond are being asked to get creative and put pen to paper for the launch of the 2009 Neil Gunn Writing Competition.   Organised by The Highland Council and the Neil Gunn Trust, this premier writing competition, originally launched in 1988 to encourage creative writing, is now one of the most prestigious events in the Scottish literary scene.

Blas Festival - Caithness Events Friday 5th September 2008 Fred Morrison and Friends Leading the line up is phenomenal piper and whistle player, Fred Morrison who has carved himself an international reputation with a powerfully exuberant, highly improvisational style which combines the Gaelic piping tradition of the Uists with contemporary and eclectic influences.  The evening is being promoted by the local branch of An Comunn Gàidhealach in the run up to the 2010 Royal National Mod and will also feature a number of local artists.

Bill Fernie, chairman of the Education, Culture and Sport committee of Highland council joined musicians and supporters on Friday 11th July 2008 at Muirtown Basin Marina, Inverness, to promote the line up for the 7th Caledonian Canal Ceilidh Trail Band, which opens on Monday 14 July.   Caledonian Canal Ceilidh Trail is a traditional music project organised by The Highland Council's Education, Culture and Sport Service in association with British Waterways (Scotland) and working in partnership with TMC Folk and lottery funded by the Scottish Arts Council.
