The Scottish Arts Council (SAC) has announced that as from April 2009 it will cease to fund Lyth Arts Centre, the only dedicated professional arts venue in Caithness. The Council has funded the Centre on an annual basis since it first opened in 1977.

Over 400 children from rural schools in the east of Caithness and Wick will see the show during the week but we are adding an extra family performance on Wednesday at 6pm.
Club Tromolo is a nine-strong team from Glasgow presenting wonky cabaret, music and dancing. Described by The List as "The most original club night in years ", acts include madly eccentric and surreal characters like ferret-juggling Frank Percy OBE, Mystic Martin, Suzie Sparkle, static acrobat troupe The Flying Frumpingtons, the Govan Seer and many more.

Thurso Players invite you to come along and meet the 'Trotts' at their annual Christmas Panto at Thurso High School. This year's production, Jack & the Beanstalk starts its run at 7.30pm on Wednesday 12th December and will be on, at the same time, each evening up to and including Saturday 15th December.
Held in the stunning Lyth Arts Centre near Wick, Caithness, the Carole Sutherland Saxophone Course offers the opportunity for saxophonists of all ages and levels the chance to learn and perform with others in a supportive and relaxed environment. To attend the Course you don't have to be a whizz kid on the saxophone although some playing experience would be helpful! The Course will begin on Friday 28th September at 8pm with a short recital given by Carole Sutherland (saxophone) and Laura Baxter (piano).
Thurso Players take to the stage again later this month in what has been one of their busiest years for amateur productions. The latest offering, 'Educating Rita', directed by Iain MacDonald, is a play for two characters and is set entirely in a lecturer's office at a Liverpool University.
Lyth Arts Centre brings the wonder of Puppet Theatre to Caithness for children over 5 and families. Indigo Moon theatre group specialises in this art form and is wonderfully entertaining.
Northumbrian based duo Landermason will be performing at Thurso's Mill Theatre next week as part of their extensive UK tour, promoting their latest album release, 'The Reason'. The song-writing duo of Fiona Lander (vocals, piano, saxophone, whistles, clarinet and recorder) and Paul Mason (vocals & guitars) have developed a unique sound displaying their undoubted talents as musicians.
Thurso Players' latest production, 'Habeas Corpus', directed by John Glen, takes to the stage for a three night run starting on Tuesday 26th June. Now, while 'Habeas Corpus' is a legal term meaning 'you must have the body' this is not a play about a trial, rather it is an early treasure from the pen of renowned playwright Alan Bennett.

'A Brief History of Scotland', is a look at one small nationıs past and present, who we are, how we got here and the struggles we have confronted on that journey. In particular, the continuing struggle we have had with our much larger and more powerful neighbour.

Thurso Players are in the final stages of rehearsal for their forthcoming Historical Production, 'The Death of Ivan the Terrible'. The play tells the story of the declining years of one of the greatest sadists in history - Ivan the Terrible - or Ivan Grozni as he was known to the Russians.
March 2007 sees the start of the new season March - December 2007. Membership fees are now due and at £15 for single or £25 for two people its an easy way to support this great arts place in Caithness.
This year sees a record entry for the Scottish Community Drama Association (SCDA) Highland Division with a total of six team entries from Halkirk, Wick and Thurso. Because of this interest the Festival will be held over two nights, Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th March.
Saturday 24th February sees the Scottish Community Drama Association's 75th District Adult Festival which takes place in The Assembly Rooms, Wick. With entries from both Wick Players and Thurso Players it's sure to make for an entertaining evening.
January sees the return of the programme featuring Professional artists to Thurso's Mill Theatre which starts of in style with a celebration of the works of Robert Burns in song and verse. 'The Jolly Beggars and a' That' is an informal performance of a little known but superb musical play (Cantata) by Burns consisting of eight poems and eight songs.

BLAS-festival presents CLAN 6 September 7.30pm Mary Ann Kennedy, Kenna Campbell, Wilma Kennedy and Maggie Macdonald are four of the most distinguished Gaelic singers of our age, all Mod medal winners and well known throughout Scotland. They are joined by musicians Angus, Kenneth and Calum Mackenzie who hail from Mabou in Cape Breton, a community rich in Gaelic tradition and language, to create an evening of great music.
