'Renewable Theatre' - an original Caithness Horizons Project
THE PUBLICATION LAUNCH OF TWO PLAYS by GEORGE GUNN 'Egil, Son of the Night Wolf' and 'Atomic City' were both conceived, written, rehearsed and produced in Caithness, before going on national tour with Grey Coast Theatre Company.  Actors will read rehearsed scenes from both plays, and copies of the plays will be available for sale on the night - COME AND GET YOUR SIGNED COPY! Highland Art Galleries To Exhibit Work Of Acclaimed American Artist Major drawings by Ed Ruscha, one of the most influential and pioneering American artists of the past half-century, will be touring Highland art galleries from September as part of ARTIST ROOMS, the important new public collection of international post-war and contemporary art that national fundraising charity for works of art, the Art Fund is helping to tour across the UK.   ARTIST ROOMS is jointly owned and managed by National Galleries of Scotland and Tate on behalf of the nation.

New Highland Music Day
Young musicians from all over the Highlands will be taking part in the first Highland Music Day on Friday 1 October in Inverness.   The Highland Council has created this new annual day of workshops and group playing for musicians of all levels of ability who attend Highland primary or secondary schools.

BLAS ATTRACTS POLITICAL AND PUBLIC SUPPORT
Highlands and Islands MSP Rob Gibson has lodged a motion at the Scottish Parliament which congratulates the Blas Festival for its successful celebration of the region's Gaelic-based music and culture.   The motion comes as a spot survey of 100 festival-goers revealed 97% of respondents think the festival is important for its contribution to Highland culture.

Great Opportunity For Young Guitarists
The quest is on to find the Highland's most talented young guitarists with an exciting opportunity to perform during the Ullapool Guitar Festival.   The Highland Council, in association with the Ullapool Guitar Festival, have launched a new competition- Highland Young Guitarist 2010 - and invite guitarists who attend Highland Schools to come along to the Spectrum Centre in Inverness on Saturday 25 September to perform a solo programme of music of their choice in front of an audience.

Mod Opportunity For Artists Exhibition
As you are probably already aware, the National Mod is coming to Caithness this year.   This means that from the 8th to the 16th October, it is hoped that the county will be overflowing with people, many who will be visiting for the first time.

Wicked Drama Club for Kidz!!!
A new drama club for children in Primary 4 - 7 in the Wick area kicks off on Monday, 30th August at the Wick Youth Club.   Eden Court Drama Worker David Hunter will be co-ordinating the 'WICKed Drama Club for Kidz' which will run weekly until the end of the first term from 6pm to 7.30pm.

Harmonies of Dunbeath - free event for the whole family
An event which aims to encourage people from all walks of life to get out and about, enjoy their environment and learn about the wonderful local biodiversity takes place in Caithness on Saturday 4 September.   This free fun day out called 'Harmonies of Dunbeath' is organised by Caithness Biodiversity Group, with support from The Highland Council countryside rangers and sponsored by Scottish Natural Heritage.

TRADITIONAL CEILIDH WILL HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR THE ROYAL NATIONAL MÒD
This week sees the best of local talent from Wick perform at the Norseman on Saturday 21st August 2010.   The Ceilidh, organised by the local organising committee, will be the last in a series of Ceilidhs held to help support and raise funds for the Royal National Mòd which is being held for the first time in Caithness this October.

Exhibition On Ceramics By Highland Craft Artist
A Craft Spotlight exhibition featuring the work of Highland based ceramicist Daniel Kavanagh has opened in the Small Gallery at Inverness Museum & Art Gallery.  This is the fourth series of craft exhibitions that the Highland Council Exhibitions Unit in partnership with HI-Arts has presented this summer.

Old Maps and New - Highlands and Islands Culture and the Economy
A Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE)/Creative Scotland conference, celebrating the last and the next 20 years of communities and culture in the Highlands and Islands is to be held in Inverness in November.   In 1991 the newly-formed HIE organised a ground-breaking conference on the Social and Economic Impact of the Arts in the Highlands and Islands.

Matisse Exhibition Comes To Inverness
A Hayword touring exhibition - "Drawing with Scissors" - the late works of Matisse 1950 - 1954 will be on display at Inverness Museum and Art Gallery from 7 August to 5 September 2010.   The French painter, sculptor and designer, Henri Matisse (1869-1954) was one of the 20th century's most influential artists.

Gibson Adds Support For Bigwalk and Concerts
Highlands and Islands SNP MSP Rob Gibson has added his support to two charity fundraisers/musicians who will walk their way from John O Groats to Gretna to raise awareness of young and newly disabled as well those with hidden disabilities.  They will also give concerts along the way which will include 7 world premiers by 7 world class classical composers.

New Arts and Creative Industries Organisation Launched 1 July
Creative Scotland is the new national organisation for the development of the arts screen, and creative industries across Scotland and launched officially today Thursday 1st July 2010.   Scottish Screen and the Scottish Arts Council will cease to exist and become Creative Scotland.
