The Far North Youth Orchestra Suitable for all ages - babies and toddlers welcome! The orchestra has been established this year as part of Lyth Arts Centre's community development programme. Musicians are all 8/13 years old and come from the north and west Highlands.

At its first now-famous performance in the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, a riot broke out among the Parisian audience.

As an award-winning composer herself, Tobin has always taken a keen interest in singer-songwriters.
Nuala Kennedy Band in Noble Stranger 8th May 2014 Time: 20:00:00 Location: Lyth Arts Centre Length: 2 hours Renowned traditional singer Nuala Kennedy is widely recognised for her passionate love of traditional music and her band was nominated as Folk Band of the Year 2013. At Lyth they will be joined by multi-award-winning Canadian fiddle and piano virtuoso Troy MacGillivray.
20th April 2014 Visionary guitar virtuoso Simon Thacker and the outstanding young Polish cellist Justyna Jablonska present Karmana (Sanskrit for "performing anything by means of magic"), combining elements from classical, jazz, Indian, Flamenco, Celtic, Balkan and other powerful musical systems mixed with Simon's unique experiences performing with musicians from around the world, resulting in an exhilarating meeting of musical styles, cultures and traditions, performed by two leading musicians. Karmana mingles compositional ingenuity, captivating rhythmic invention and improvisational grace and fervour with the incredible sonic palette of guitar and cello.

Partikel are three London-based musicians, all with very different musical backgrounds, who have come together to make music by mixing all of their favourite influences in a melodic, coherent and accurate way.

Lyth Arts Centre Open 12 - 5 pm daily 1st July - 31st August 2013 Adults: £3 OAPs: £2 Children, Students, Unwaged: £1 Alistair Cook This project "McArthur's Store" was created by photographer, architect and artist Alistair Cook, who spent the summer of 2012 in a building on the quay at Dunbar used by fishermen while mending their creels. He used wet plate collodion photography, a process concocted by Englishman Fred Scott Archer in 1851 to produce portraits of Dunbar men and their families.

Karl's teacher was Artur Schnabel, a pupil of Leschetiszky, who studied under Czerny.
21st July 2013 Folk – Wingin’ It Time: 20:00:00 Location: Lyth Arts Centre, Summer Evening Foyer Concert Length: 2 hours Interval: yes Age suitability : 8+ Folk – Wingin’ ItFolk – Wingin’ It Wingin' It are an award winning guitar duo from Scotland. Adam Bulley and Chas Mackenzie formed the duo in 2005, having met playing in other projects in and around Argyll.
Nothing is more exciting for musicians than finding someone else who you enjoy playing with and that is what's happened to those two. They are well matched and Fiona's beautiful voice and cello is perfectly underscored by Mike's guitar and fiddle.
This is the second show which some of the Highland promoters admired in last year's Fringe and invited to tour our venues. It's a delightful and imaginative entertainment performed by three wacky young ladies who hitched from Land's End to John O' Groats and then turned their experience into a play.
This concert will be performed by around 20 musicians who will be spending the weekend at Lyth during one of our Music Exchanges. It is very exciting to have Christina Laurie and Harriet Mackenzie (The Sutherland Duo) back with us and we are delighted to welcome members of The Caithness Orchestra.
